Phantom Universe By Laura Kreitzer

I had the pleasure of getting and advance "e-proof" copy of this book and OMG!!
I got this yesterday and I'm done today! It was that good!
So here the short blurp about the book from the Author Site (Laura Kreitzer)

Published February 15, 2011 by Obsidian Mountain Publishing
Approximately 280 pages
Genre: Science Fiction
ISBN 10: 0982903340
ISBN 13: 9780982903346
Summary: Sold into slavery to pirates at the young age of four, Summer learns to survive the rough seas of subterfuge and thieves through silence. When the boat she’s lived on most of her life is destroyed, Summer finds herself washed up on the shore of a new world, a phantom universe full of the bizarre and extraordinary. She meets Gage, the one boy who understands the girl with no speech. But when their lives are put on the line, will Summer finally call out? Or will all be lost in the fathomless depth of silence?

Got your attention?...I know right.
I've sat here trying to think what to write about this book that wouldn't give away all the great parts of this book....I've used the delete key so much my poor computer is thinking "What the heck?"
Throughout  the book I've enjoyed the fact that the chapters flow nicely, they either flash back or progress further into the story. It made it so wonderful to read, giving you an in depth bearing into the life of Summer and the people around her. I loved the fact the Gage would do anything in the world for her even after finding out the truth of her. What a guy! She's definitely made some wonderful friends during this whole ordeal, ones she will need if Dr. Zhar has anything to say about it.

Become a Character in H.P. Mallory's next Book!

I found one contest I have to enter and thought I would share with all of you.....

(From Her Blog Posting)

Become a character in my next book part 2!!!

Woo Hoo! Another Contest to become another character!

Remember how I hosted a contest for two winners to become characters in Toil and Trouble? And Mercedes Berg and Christine Trum won? Well, I'm at it again! This time for the next Dulcie book. I'm thinking it will be titled "A tale of two goblins".

Here are the contest parameters:

Enter to be written as a character in my book, A tale of two goblins (maybe the title as of now but might change). I'll create your character using your name, description and personality (I'll have to send over a questionnaire, etc. to find out all about you!)

I already know which character you'll be and without giving away too much, this character is:

* Integral to the storyline
* A kick butt type of person
* A "good guy" aka not a jerk wad or a character you wouldn't want to be

The winner will get:

* A written part in the next Dulcie book
* The ability to read the next Dulcie book before it's released to the public
* Added to the Acknowledgments page of the next Dulcie book
* Interviewed on my blog
* A signed (with dedication) paperback copy of the next Dulcie book
* A signed paperback copy of To Kill A Warlock
Seriously a wonderful contest, at least for this crazy blond!
All the details can be found on her blog home page
HP Mallory, Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Author
Good luck to all that enters
(Please don't feel bad if I say that with my fingers crossed behind my back!)

So Who Won and What Have I been Doing?

OK, So while I've had this contest posted I've been just trying to get Christmas all together. You know buying all the presents for the relatives, thinking about doing the Christmas cards (I bought them...LOL), and planning on what we'll eat for dinner. Boy, I should go STRIKE....as if that would go over well.
However, somewhere between all of that I did get to read a few books....

So,I guess I did get a little escape time.
For the first two...Amazing!!!! I actually kindled Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband (which is the first in the series)  and I swear I read it in less than 45mins! I would love to have a highlander appear in my bedroom asking me for help. Cate, so lucked out on that one. As for, A Highlander's Homecoming(book 6), Robbie was sent back in time to protect Leah and full fill an oath he made, in turn his world was flipped....Loved it!
*Note -usually I read these in order when I can, but I actually had A Highlander's Homecoming on my bookshelf....LOL*
Next, Diana Cosby's His Conquest was so good I actually had to get the other two books that went before it. I mean to trust without knowing and then on top of everything to fall in love just to find out she's the Enemy's SISTER! Man oh man....what to do.... :0)
And finally the last book....Totally X-Rated...OMG!!!! But a good read for Adults...not really a book more a short story...I read it in 15mins.

Now on to what you really came to read about.....I know....OMG! She rambles a lot...LOL
So I had 12 comments of which 10 were actual entries (1 was in Canada-I'll get our neighbors to the north next time and the other that didn't count was an extra post for a forgotten email)..

Alexandra Willan is in a panic. Her restaurant is due to open in two weeks, but her chef just walked out. Then a highly recommended replacement arrives, an impossibly handsome culinary genius who sends electric tingles racing through her body . . .
Except he can't cook. In fact, Cale hasn't eaten real food in two thousand years. Yet he's determined to prove to Alex his prowess in the kitchen . . . and elsewhere. Because never has he hungered so for any mortal woman. And not just for a taste of her, but for the whole delicious feast!

"No Hope for Gomez!" Birthday Party. Win kindles, iPods, and get free books!

“It's the age-old tale:
     Boy meets girl.
     Boy stalks girl.
     Girl already has a stalker.
     Boy becomes her stalker-stalker.”

It's hard to believe, but it's been a year since I handed in the final proofs for my weird little book ‘No Hope for Gomez!’ To celebrate this, and the fact that it just became a finalist in 2010's Best Book Awards, I decided to throw an international party. As I’ve had a debilitating fear of throwing parties and no-one showing up since early childhood, I’d be more than delighted if you’d come!

Of course, with every cool, international party comes a gift bag. Here's just some of the stuff attendants will get:

  • Exclusive short story collection
  • No Hope for Gomez: The Lost Chapters
  • Making of Gomez: behind the scenes eBook
  • Signed hi-res poster + bookplate

(These are all exclusive items and will not be available again)

Additionally, several lucky attendants will win a Kindle or an iPod!

Oh yeah, you can bring as many friends as you like, just don't bring your crazy uncle who drinks too much and then tries to get me to go to the attic with him to see something wonderful. I've fallen for that before and I don't mind telling you, I came away very disappointed!

Find out how to attend HERE.

In The Company of Vampires

Tuesday, I read a teaser on a blog I follow and that lead me to ran out Wednesday to buy this book, In The Company of Vampires, by Katie MacAlister. Never in my life have I ever spit my coffee out reading a book before. OMG! Vikings...Really!
I would have to say this part right here is totally what got my goat....
"We are experts on women," Eirik said, taking my hand. "You will tell us about this quarrel, and we will tell you what you have done wrong."
And would you believe my husband actually laughed and agreed!
When Francesca arrives at GothFaire to save her mother from the trickster god, Loki, things go from bad to worse. Her immortal ex, Benedikt, is there, full of secrets-and with a new girlfriend. Now Fran must battle a power-hungry group who wishes to dominate both the immortal and mortal worlds-and the woman who claimed Ben's heart. It's a good thing Fran's no ordinary mortal

..........
Since I've never read her previous teen books I know why in the beginning I felt as though I was a bit lost. However, that was soon forgotten after about the third chapter or so. I DO NOT recommend this for younger readers as it does contain adult scenes. When Fran and the Vikings got to the GothFaire the story line really picked up, and you held tight for what was about to happened next. Most likely the vikings were about to do something stupid....lol
In all honesty the end of the book does leave off to venture on to another book....the shape shifters still need their revenge.

My First Review... The Noble Pirates

I figured I would start a blog where I could review whatever and maybe in the future even do a give away  should I get enough followers. So that being said onward to my very first review!

The Noble Pirates

By R.L.Jean

A vacation in the Bahamas goes awry, and a woman from 2009 unexpectedly finds herself in the 18th century -- amidst pirates. Sabrina is so consumed with her present-day problems that the last thing she expects is to suddenly end up face to face with real pirates. The notorious bad boys of the Golden Age of Piracy, Edward England, Howel Davis, and “Black Bart” Roberts, become Sabrina’s means of survival in the past, and ultimately, her key to returning to the future.
The catch? Sabrina happens to be carrying a book about pirates when she is swept into the past, and that book contains biographies of the very men she meets. She forms relationships with them and learns that, contrary to what she previously thought, they are sailors, servants, and slaves who were pressed into service, victims of social and historical circumstances of the era. She begins to wonder: Can she use her knowledge to change the past? Is her knowledge a blessing or a curse?

Personally-
I totally loved this book. I can hardly wait for the second one that the end clearly states will be coming. The characters are so much fun to follow along with. Sabrina is so full of spunk! She is clearly a women of 2009, she is not to be put aside like the women of the 1700s. The Pirates England and Davis were kind of a puzzle and I would have never gathered that Roberts would have done what he did.
Sometimes, I thought I had things figured out but then BAM the book totally took a different turn and I was thrown for a loop and a good loop it was. I wish I could say more as to who I'd like to take a canon ball to and who I think I would strip too, but then I would take away from the loops of your reading. I think I may have to check out what the heck a booze cruise is!
