~Edward Wilson’s Antarctic Notebooks~

Edward Wilson’s Antarctic Notebooks’D.M. Wilson and C.J. Wilson, 2011, Reardon Publishers, Cheltenham.
Published by Reardon Publishing, Cheltenham, at the end of October 2011, the ‘Edward Wilson’s Antarctic Notebooks’ was launched by Sir David Attenborough at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust Centre (the last visionary centre created by Sir Peter Scott, the son of Captain Robert Falcon Scott) in Barnes, London. Sir David was particularly taken by the sketch, in the book, that Uncle Ted drew of the Black Flag on Ski left at the South Pole by the Norwegian Party led by Roald Amundsen, stating it showed the true and amazing character of Edward Wilson that he could calmly draw this flag even though the party would have been disappointed at not reaching the South Pole first. Of course ‘Edward Wilson’s Antarctic Notebooks’ was the follow up book to my brother David and my book ‘Edward Wilson’s Nature Notebooks’ also published by Reardon Publishers, back in 2004.  The idea of the ‘Edward Wilson’s Nature Notebooks’ had come about because so many already knew of Edward Wilson of the Antarctic, but few actually knew that he was one of the world’s most outstanding scientist’s and leading wildlife painter’s of that era from his work in Europe and whose gifts and talent were at the forefront of changes taking place in the early twentieth century Science and Art communities.  When the ‘Edward Wilson’s Nature Notebooks’ were published in 2004, not only did David and I get numerous requests in relation to lecturing on this role model of the Antarctic Heroic Age, but also questions as to when we were going to produce an ‘Edward Wilson’s Antarctic Notebooks’. And so the idea of the second book materialised. Meanwhile I was working away at the Wexford Wildfowl Reserve, Ireland’s premier wildfowl reserve and the home of the Greenland White-fronted Goose, that species first described by Sir Peter Scott, founder of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, and as mentioned the son of Captain Robert F. Scott. In 2000 I spent a year working for the National Parks in South Australia, (where I had great fun setting up bird count areas and butterfly monitoring walk amongst many other projects), and on my return I was contracted to ‘Lecture’ and be the ‘On-board Ornithologist’ on one of the cruise ships in Antarctica (this continued for the next eight annual summer seasons). What better place ‘to concentrate the mind’ on ones famous relation, whose outstanding contribution to Antarctic Science and Art were so well known from his Antarctic Expeditions 100 years before. There was the added advantage that my brother David was on-board Historian so we were both able to share our passions and instigate our research into these ‘very special’ book(s).  Both David and I spent huge amounts of time researching, discussing and choosing what had to go into both the ‘Edward Wilson’s Nature Notebooks’ and ‘Edward Wilson’s Antarctic Notebooks’. Quite often each of our own favorites came into play and many painful decisions had to be made. As requirements for pages were selected, these were forwarded to Nicholas, our highly patient publisher, who designed the pages only to then find that both David and I preferred them this, that, or yet another way. Bit by bit these books came together – new pictures were discovered, and included, or maybe just noted as to where and in whose collection they might be. It worked, and in 2004 David’s and my dream became a reality with the publication of ‘Edward Wilson’s Nature Notebooks’.  At last, real publicity for one of the most outstanding and important 20th Century Artist, Naturalist and Scientist, quite apart from his contribution to Antarctic Exploration, was out in the public domain. This, the first of our Uncle Ted book series, was followed in 2011 by the  ‘Edward Wilson’s Antarctic Notebooks’. Even Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II kindly arranged for two of her images to be made available to us for use in the second book.
Both the ‘Edward Wilson’s Nature Notebooks’ and ‘The Edward Wilson’s Antarctic Notebooks’ were labour’s of love, each being written with particular charities in mind.  All the profits from the ‘Edward Wilson’s Nature Notebooks’ were assigned to ‘Edward Wilson memorial projects’, and this book has and is selling well, and is currently providing useful funds for these memorial projects. The ‘Special’ edition of that book, was selected as the ‘Henry Southeran Limited Fine Books and Prints, of London, ‘The Book of 2004’’, which was particularly satisfying. As to the ‘Edward Wilson’s Antarctic Notebooks’, all the profits are going to ‘Edward Wilson Funds at the Scott Polar Research Institute’. Book sales are most encouraging and sales are progressing at a good pace and it is hoped that before long this books will also be providing the selected Edward Wilson Funds with much needed money to further those Edward Wilson younger generation science and art projects.
‘Edward Wilson’s Nature Notebooks’ and ‘Edward Wilson’s Antarctic Notebooks’ are available in good bookshops or at: www.antarcticbookshop.com,  www.edwardawilson.com/ or   www.wildside.i.e..

~Prophecy of the Flame~

In a blinding flash of light, five nondescript strangers are yanked from this world and thrust into a land of sorcery as they are granted the looks and abilities of the people they were playing. This band of wannabe heroes soon discovers that having the powers they have always dreamed of, does not make life a dream come true. The Crusaders of the Light struggle to form a cohesive band as they blend twentieth century technology with the supernatural powers of this new world, fighting to liberate the kingdom of Cuthburan from the evil horde threatening humanity.

Battle is also waged within Reba, an ordinary housewife who has become the most powerful mage on the planet, as she struggles to remain true to her wedding vows. Drawn against her will to the arms of Prince Alexandros, Reba must choose between a marriage to a handsome prince in a magical world or returning to the husband she left behind.

OH MY FREAKING GOSH!!!!!
Talk about one heck of an adventure! I mean really? First you're put into a role playing group  of strangers then wham... bam... poof....You're not in Kansas anymore...LOL
I don't know where to start.

I'm sitting here pondering what exactly to write....I enjoyed reading this book entirely, to the point I'd even audition to play Crystal, Reba's Chambermaid...LOL
This book takes Role Playing to a WHOLE new level.....I will never ever look at another role player the same again.

Summoned to Cuthburan to battle demons, Archmage Reba and the Crusaders of Light have NO clue what they are really up against. At first Reba totally didn't even believe Prince Szames about the demons. They learned fast!

It appears that Reba and the guys arrived just in time.

Without telling you all everything....one of the things that Reba and the guys did right away was save the life of the crown Prince Alexandros.
I'll state this right up front....This  jerk isn't my favorite character in the book at all!!!!
I do however like Andrayia...LOL

They soon are a part of preparing Cuthburan for the up coming battle by all means possible. Reba soon finds out way more than she bargains for.....Both by hiding and by going to Church.
Too bad the guys aren't too thrilled with the news!

Author, Lynn Hardy, does an amazing job with her characters. They start off normal then they turn flipping AWESOME!
(If only I could use rhymes like Reba!)

~Beauty In The Beast~

Journeying by steam-powered sled to London's Frost Fair to perform, Tara and three friends are trapped in a blizzard in the woods. A gruff, handsome stranger offers them shelter-and wants one thing in return. Stories.
The travellers are glad to oblige. Their host, Rolph, is especially captivated by Tara's story of an orphaned girl raised by the Fae in the world of the spirits. Equally intrigued by Rolph, and aware of an electric pull between them, Tara encourages him to share a story of his own. When Rolph weaves a tale of a man who is doomed by his own folly to turn into a wolf at the full moon, Tara suspects there is more than a grain of truth in his words.
When the veil between the mortal and spiritual worlds is parted, and danger threatens, will Tara make the ultimate sacrifice to save Rolph?

This was actually an interesting story....not really all that long...about 29,000 words.
I loved that it was Steampunk with a little mix of Fae.
Truly who couldn't love the mix of characters....A Were...a Mortal/Fae and then throw in three plain mortals without a clue...LOL

It was a really short read before bed and wonder if any of the stories you have ever read before in your life might have some truth to them.
I mean when you think about it....it could be possible.....Fairytales...could be based on some fact of long ago...

Would you like to read the whole tale.....find out if Beauty saves the Beast....or does the Beast eat Beauty....LOL
(You never know....I didn't say if it had a happy ending or not!!!)

~Forsaken Harbor~

It's March 3rd....My Day for the Tour Stop :0)

The Secret Clock Society has infiltrated every aspect of the government. You can’t hide from them, you can’t out run them—the only choice is to surrender or die fighting. Well, Summer’s found her voice and her confidence. She’ll fight if necessary, but for now she’s on the run. And the only place that can offer her refuge is the one city that’s been devastated with disease and death. Full of savages, Forsaken Harbor holds her life on the edge of a knife. Is there still hope to be found here after all? Or will survival mean savagery?

Ahhhh...Book two in The Summer Chronicles. In my opinion it TOTALLY surpasses book one.
Summer has her voice and man the girl sure as all uses it!!
I don't want to be around her when she's mad...or for that matter armed!!!

I can't get over how much action this book has packed into it....Wholly Boogers!!
Hover cars crash...Murders.... Buildings being blown up....and then some!!!
I won't even go into the Beach scene...I mean REALLY...OMG!!

Summer's character comes into her own in this book...she's defining her feelings for Gage, she at a lost how to feel for Julian (and I don't blame her)
She's not a naive child geesh!!!!
Oh...and she ventures off on her own....flipping Julian!!!

Don't even think for one minute that you can just pick this book up and read a few chapters and set it down....oh no....by then something AWESOME has happened and of course you'll NEED to find out what happens next.......!!!

Then when you think "No Way...What?"......You are left wondering what the "Good" Dr. Zhar has up her sleeve next....

This is TOTALLY a MUST read !!!!!
